Creative Writing
Creative Writing
Windswept Workshops provides bespoke and accessible creative writing and storytelling workshops for all ages. From collage poetry to collaborative story games, we endeavour to defeat barriers to participation and celebrate our storytellers' works. Emphasis is on building a compelling narrative, rather than on spelling and grammar, and all of our storytellers will leave each session with a story to work on.

All of our sessions are led by First Class Creative Writing graduates Erin Gilbey and Gaby Songui. Gaby is a writer with special interests in diversity and identity. Her work has been showcased at Selly Manor Museum and through the New Works Playhouse. Meanwhile Erin's writing, which explores climate justice and place, has seen her twice shortlisted for the Royal Court Writing group, and published in a Sampad poetry anthology.
Storytelling
Storytelling
Our storytelling sessions, available for children and adults, have a multi-disciplinary focus with elements of creative writing, drawing and performance. The focus is on building and telling a compelling story, rather than on grammar, spelling or rules. Our facilitators will nurture participants' abilities to express themselves and empathise with other people through stories. Sessions include character creation, world-building and story structure sessions, and can be delivered as one-off workshops or full courses. Our courses usually culminate in a publication launch or performance event where participants have the opportunity to share their work.
Puppetry
Puppetry
Our puppet-making workshops range from simple sock puppets to complex two-handed marionettes, with an emphasis on using puppets as a tool for storytelling. These workshops can be delivered for adults and children - we can choose the type of puppet to make with your group based on the time available as well as their ages and access needs.
